Utterly Dreadful

Things went catastrophically wrong. It was a real train wreck. We tried to {compensate|mitigate the situation, but it was like trying to stop a blizzard with a spoon. We're still picking up the debris and feeling the impact of this disaster.

Or were we just simply unfortunate enough to witness this spectacle unfold?

Thousands were left beneath rubble, their fate uncertain. The scale of the disaster was unprecedented, leaving survivors to face a future forever changed.

Awful Day Ever

It all started with an case of uncontrollable hair. I couldn't do it to look presentable. As I was scrambling out the door, I stumbled and dropped my lunch all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was completely running behind for a very important appointment.

It all started out horribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then things went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
